Joe Walczyk

Originally from Connecticut, Joe started playing trumpet in elementary school and was involved in music of many different genres throughout his education. He was heavily involved in Drum and Bugle corps as a member of 7th Regiment from his home state, and the world champion Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from Canton, Ohio. Joe received his undergraduate degree at Central Connecticut State University, where he participated in ensembles both in and out of school. During his Master’s degree at Southern Illinois University, Joe played with the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Studio Jazz Band, and won the SISO Concerto Competition. He was also heavily involved with the music at the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale.
After leaving Carbondale, Joe went to Northern Virginia performing as a DJ and trumpet player, teaching middle school choir, and released music with the virtual brass ensemble Cinematic Brass. Joe is currently living in West Virginia with his partner and three cats, where he is continuing his doctoral studies at West Virginia University as the Trumpet Studio Teaching Assistant and Director of Jazz Ensemble 2.
